Fluid Mechanics :
Nature is divided into two matters, Living Matter and Non Living Matter. Plants, animals and human being comes under living matter. Sloid and Fluids comes under non living matter. Fluids are further divided into liquids and gases.

Fluid mechanics is that branch of engineering science which deals fluid behavior under influence of forces and energy at rest or under motion.

Fluid Branches :
1. Fluid Statics
2. Fluid Kinematics
3. Fluid Dynamics

Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulic Machinery AE AEE Ace Handwritten Notes

Fluid Statics : Water thrust force on the concrete wall of dams, pressure forces on the overhead tank, ship design (Buoyancy)

Fluid Kinematics : Fluid kinematics deals motion of the fluid without forces causing motion.Example : Estimation of displacement, velocity, acceleration, volumetric flow rate (m^3/second), mass flow rate

Fluid Dynamics : Study of the motion of the fluid under the influence of forces, enery, etc Example : Flow through a turbine, a pump, flow measuring devices like venturimeter, orifice meter, pitot tube, current meterm rotor meter.

Different properties of matter :
1. Free surface.
2. Controlled surface where the walls exerts force due to pressure.
3. Fixed surface
4. Controlled Volume – fixed quantity of matter in space
5. Mass of the matter – Matter is a certain quantity in controlled volume which remains same everywhere in the universe.
6. Weight of the matter – It is the gravitational force of that matter
7. Area occupied by the matter

8. Volume occupied by the matter
9. Specific mass of the matter or density or mass density of a matter
10. Specific Weight or weight density or unit density
11. Specific volume
12. Specific Gravity or relative density
13. Bulk Modulus of elasticity of a liquid
14. Compressibility of a fluid
15. Dynamic viscosity or coefficiency of viscocity or absolute viscocity or viscocity coefficient
16. Kinematic viscocity
17. Pressure intensity of fluid
18. Vapour pressure
19. Surface tensin or energy
20. Cavitation factor of a fluid
